The Warmiru lagunas (formerly Thrixopelma lagunas) is a terrestrial tarantula species endemic to Peru, recently reclassified in late 2025 into the new genus Warmiru alongside W. longicolli. This taxonomic shift, was driven by the absence of the dark abdominal stripe typical of the former Thrixopelma genus. The name Warmiru honors female arachnologists, deriving from the Quechua words for "woman" (warmi) and "spider" (uru). In the wild, these spiders inhabit the humid forest floors of northwestern Peru, where they utilize burrows for shelter.
In captivity, Warmiru lagunas is prized for its manageable temperament and striking appearance. Enthusiasts describe them as calm and docile, making them suitable for intermediate keepers, though they can be defensive if provoked. They possess a "chubby" build with velvety textures and subtle coloration that often intensifies after molting. Husbandry requires a secure, escape-proof terrestrial enclosure with deep, moist substrate (such as coconut fiber) to facilitate burrowing, alongside moderate humidity (60–70%) and temperatures between 75–85°F (24–29°C).
