Tityus serratulus is a scorpion species within the genus Tityus, a group that includes several medically important and highly venomous species found across Central and South America.

It is typically a medium-sized scorpion, often reaching about 2.5 to 3.5 inches (6–9 cm) in length. Its coloration ranges from yellowish to light brown, sometimes with slightly darker markings depending on locality. Like other Tityus species, it has relatively slender pincers and a thicker, curved tail adapted for effective venom delivery.

This scorpion is nocturnal and prefers warm, humid environments such as forests, grasslands, and areas near human habitation. During the day it hides under bark, stones, debris, or inside cracks and crevices, emerging at night to hunt insects and other small invertebrates.

The venom of Tityus serratulus is considered medically significant and can produce strong pain, swelling, and systemic symptoms such as nausea, sweating, and in more severe cases cardiovascular effects. As with other members of the genus, envenomations are taken seriously in regions where it occurs, particularly for children and sensitive individuals.

Overall, it is a fast, adaptable, and potentially dangerous scorpion that thrives in both natural and human-influenced environments.
