Psalmopoeus victori, often called the Mexican half-and-half tarantula, is a visually striking arboreal species found along Mexico’s Pacific coastal regions. It is recognized for its bold contrast in coloration, featuring dark legs and carapace paired with bright orange to reddish markings on the abdomen, creating a distinctive two-toned look.
Like others in the Psalmopoeus genus, this species is quick-moving, highly alert, and defensive when threatened. It does not possess urticating hairs and instead relies on speed and threat displays for defense.
In captivity, P. victori requires a tall enclosure with ample vertical climbing surfaces such as cork bark, along with anchor points for heavy webbing. It thrives in temperatures between 75–82°F (24–28°C) with moderate to high humidity and strong ventilation.
An opportunistic ambush predator, it feeds primarily on insects. Because of its speed and defensive nature, this species is recommended for keepers with some experience.
