Poecilotheria formosa (Salem Ornamental)

The Poecilotheria formosa, commonly known as the Salem Ornamental, is a stunning Old World arboreal tarantula native to the forests of southern India. It is admired for its intricate black, gray, and cream patterning, accented by vibrant yellow markings on the underside of its legs that create a striking display when in a defensive posture.

Fast, intelligent, and highly defensive, P. formosa is best suited for experienced keepers. Adult females can reach a leg span of 6–7 inches and thrive in tall, well-ventilated enclosures with plenty of vertical climbing surfaces, cork bark retreats, and moderate humidity.

With its beautiful coloration, impressive size, and elegant arboreal behavior, the Salem Ornamental is considered one of the standout species in the Poecilotheria genus and a prized addition to any experienced keeper's collection.
