The Grammostola pulchripes, or Chaco Golden-Knee, is a charming New World tarantula famous for its dazzling golden leg stripes. Native to the grasslands of Paraguay and Argentina, this gentle giant is perfect for beginners thanks to its calm and easygoing nature. It loves a spacious terrestrial home with soft substrate for burrowing and cozy hides to explore. Comfortable at 70–80°F, it rarely fusses and keeps its defense to a minimum—just a dash of Type III urticating hairs for flair. A striking, friendly spider that’s as relaxed as it is beautiful!

To mimic their natural conditions, provide an enclosure with at least 6 inches of firm substrate for burrowing, along with a hide for security. Temperatures should range between 72–82°F (22–28°C), with moderate humidity around 65–75%, maintained by lightly moistening part of the substrate and offering a water dish. Care should be taken to prevent falls, as this heavy-bodied species is prone to injury from drops.
