The Ephebopus cyanognathus, commonly known as the Blue Fang Tarantula, is a stunning and unique New World species native to the humid rainforests of French Guiana. It is highly prized for its incredible metallic-blue chelicerae, which create a striking contrast against its dark brown and olive body coloration. Reaching around 4.5–5 inches in leg span, this medium-sized tarantula is a true standout in any collection.

Unlike many tarantulas in its group, E. cyanognathus is primarily fossorial, spending much of its time in silk-lined burrows it creates beneath the substrate. Young specimens may display more surface activity and climbing behavior before becoming dedicated burrowers as they mature. They are known for their impressive webbing, fast movements, and strong feeding response.

While it is a New World species with urticating hairs, the Blue Fang Tarantula is not considered a beginner species due to its speed and defensive nature. With proper care and respect, it is a fascinating tarantula that combines exceptional coloration, interesting behavior, and a unique presence that makes it highly sought after by experienced keepers.
