Pamphobeteus sp. “Manabí” is a large terrestrial tarantula that thrives in a spacious enclosure with deep, slightly moist substrate and a secure hide, reflecting its natural habitat in the coastal savannas of Ecuador. Adults can reach 7–9 inches in leg span, so an enclosure with at least 18 inches of floor space is ideal, along with a shallow water dish and good ventilation to balance moisture and airflow. They prefer moderate warmth, around 72–78°F, with humidity maintained near 70–80%, achieved through lightly dampened substrate rather than heavy misting.
Like other members of the genus, this species grows quickly and has a strong appetite, feeding readily on appropriately sized insects such as crickets, roaches, or mealworms. Though not overly aggressive, they are skittish and may flick urticating hairs when threatened, so they are best admired rather than handled. By providing steady temperatures, seasonal shifts in moisture, and regular feeding, Pamphobeteus sp. “Manabí” can become a hardy and impressive centerpiece in any collection.
